History

pgs. 5954, 5958, 5959, 5960, 5961. With such a brief summary, there are holes that have to be filled with headcanon to play a believable character:

The parallels in Homestuck lead us to believe his hatchname is the same as his pre-Scratch alternate universe self, Mituna Captor. Unlike trolls hatched in the brooding caverns, he arrived as a grub (baby) via meteors from the Reckoning—not that he remembers. He was taken in by a lusus naturae, as per normal for trolls. His lusus was a simple-minded bicyclops. Not long after pupating and emerging into the world proper, Psii was captured and sold into slavery. Psii grew up in a city doing menial lowblood labor. Lowblood education was terrible or nonexistent, torture for a genius intellect. He taught himself nearly everything he knows, but only things he was interested in or had access to. He found a niche tending beehive mainframes. Slaves were verbally and physically abused, beaten and whipped for even mouthing off. Psii couldn't help mouthing off sometimes, and he has a map of scars to show for it.

He was not under tight security like a high-level psionic should have been, perhaps because he masked some or all of his telekinetic power. He hid it almost entirely, for fear of being "commissioned" as a helmstroll, a living battery. The Signless's sermon of equality and the apocalypse inspired him to free himself. Psii's visions and voices of the future dead led him on this path as well. Psii was patient and lay low, plotting his escape. Even with powerful telekinesis, hiding from the Empire takes effort.

Every adult Alternian troll is required to maintain quadrants, or risk being culled. Either his quadrantmates would not follow him on his mad suicidal attempt to escape, or he didn't want to drag them into it. Probably both. Psii tried to take his lusus, but escaping with a panicking two-headed giant failed and ended in death.

Bereft of everyone and wandering the wilderness for weeks, the shivering wreck found and joined Signless's movement. As someone who was inspired by Signless's message to risk a fate worse than death, he became a strong devotee and later, one of his most trusted friends throughout the rebellion. Psii was also free to practice his psionic abilities in front of people who wouldn't enslave him as a spaceship battery. He had the raw power within him already, but honing his abilities helped make him the most powerful telekinetic mage on Alternia and earn his title of the Ψiioniic.

Though he has precognitive abilities, he doesn't know yet that Signless will die, at the canon point i'm taking him from. They still have an inkling of cosmic repercussions beyond social reform, even if their roles in the grand scheme of things are not yet clear. Signless was already prophesying the apocalypse and his Second Coming when Psii was with him.

Presentation

The Ψiioniic is his title, and is what he is known by to most people. (Historical troll records, such as Mindfang's personal journal, do not mention real names.) His friends call him "Psii" for short. Psii's hatchname is very personal, only to be used with close friends or quadrantmates.

The troll ancestors share traits with their descendants and alternate universe selves: The sign of Gemini, ♊, showcased in his theme of, and affinity for, duality; the number two, bifurcation, bilateral symmetry; but also mismatched things, as long as there are two of them. Red and blue are his favorite colors, and he appreciates black and white. This duality applies to nearly everything in his life, from how he codes to how he pails. He likes bees, games of various kinds, and coding. Psii shares Sollux's eccentric habit of scribbling his current projects on walls in red and blue. He has Mituna's penchant for sexual vulgarity in speech. Psii's vacillates similarly to Sollux when confronted with (and attracted to) despicable but impressive acts of violence. Trolls sure are weird!

Psii has the trademark Captor bag of mental and emotional problems. His bipolar mood swings oscillate from thinking he's pretty damn awesome, to thinking he's not worth a pile of hoofbeast fecal matter. He can switch mid-conversation. In an upswing, he's hypomanic; still able to function somewhat normally, talkative, hard-working, and at times irritable. He blows off criticism, and binge codes instead of sleeps. In a downswing, he's listless, hopeless, and depressed. If he talks, he rambles, running his sentences together like a derailed train until even he can't see out of the dark spiral he's worked himself into.

He can be crass or abrasive, but he means well towards friends, pushing them out of despondency when they need it. Often, being his friend is just an excuse for him to be more of an ass. He will come back with an apology for being an asshole if he took it too far with the cutting remarks, only to do it again later, apologize again, ad infinitum. He wins arguments with logic and/or biting sarcasm, but will usually do a friend a favor, even if he thinks their idea is stupid. Psii can lash out in a bad temper, but it never lasts. His genius quickens his words and leaps of logic, and he insults people who can't follow his mercurial train of thought. Conversely, intelligent people garner his admiration, as do cheerful people who can balance his gloom.

Psii tends to avoid physically fighting those he dislikes, out of a habit of laying low and not stirring up trouble. Nevertheless, he will kill if his or his friends' safety is threatened. Alternian trolls see insults and violence as just another part of their daily interactions, and aren't as likely as humans to raise a fuss about them. Like Mituna, Psii can get increasingly vulgar. He gives rivals no mercy with verbal jabs, and expects the same in return. As an expert on emotional baggage and mental issues, he can't fail to point it out in others to hurt them. It should be noted that trolls may pursue romantic rivals. Objects of romantic hatred are protected from murder (most of the time), and a good rivalry is considered healthy.

Strangers are treated with caution. When he encounters a highblood or anyone like them, the snarky asshole becomes reticent out of the old fear of punishment, trying to fade into the backgound. Hackers are notoriously private, and he generally respects the privacy of others (who haven't pissed him off).

He's very resourceful, and has a lot of practice making the best out of bad circumstances, even if he is dour about it. His strategic way of dealing with things and psionic and hacking abilities would logically place him in a sentinel/long-range position, as a first line of defense. Unfortunately his watchfulness, though useful, doubles his paranoia. Psii doesn't truly feel at home until he's checked a place for electronic bugs, twice. Trust is in short supply when you're a runaway slave and outlaw heretic.

Though Psii is an NPC where Sgrub is concerned, he is still the alternate universe Mituna Captor, the Heir of Doom, and shares the predilections of his class and aspect. He concerns himself with futures, ends, and their repercussions. Psii is used to bearing bad news, telling it like it is without mincing words. In a tragic Cassandra parallel, every Captor warns people of impending dooms, but they are fated to be largely ignored.

Homestuck is notoriously reticent about specific physical characteristics, but here's what we do know: Trolls have grey skin, black hair, sharp teeth, black-tinged lips, and fiery colored horns and fingernails/claws. The Ψiioniic has heterochromatic sclerae in red and blue, and two sets (four total) of horns. He appears thin but athletic; taller than Signless but shorter than Dolorosa. He, like most trolls, wears the color of his blood caste on his clothing, along with his stylized symbol "♊". Bodily fluids such as tears are in a lighter, more translucent shade of a troll's blood color. He appears in shady stylized ancestor renderings here and here. The following is headcanon: He's 6 ft 3 in (190 cm), and has a body temperature slightly cooler than a human's. He is lean from travel, has many scars like most adult trolls, mostly whip marks from his time in slavery, and some later ones from a harsh life on the run. He has no navel, because trolls hatch from eggs. (For those interested in sexing up this fine specimen of nerd, be aware that he is an alien with alien anatomy. I am running with a 2x nook+bulge combo headcanon.)

Motivations

Like the other Captors, Psii was marked as different by his eyes and horns, and probably endured taunts because of them. He also shares their powers. He tries to tune the voices and headaches out, but sometimes even a prodigious genius can barely hear himself think. The jumbled and unclear screams remind him of the sort of painful deaths lowbloods experienced often, ones he'd like to avoid. Though as much curse as blessing, in his opinion, apeshit telekinetic power is a nice ace to have up his sleeve.

Before having joined Signless, Psii looked up to the troll who galvanized such a movement, even if he thought said troll was insane for doing so. Psii realized he could live a slave, or die a free troll fighting for something he believed in. Leaving everything behind and starting completely fresh was like being reborn: frightening as all hell, but with the potential to change his life for the better. Signless's words saved him, and Psii gave his loyalty and help in return. He took the risky title of Ψiioniic, showing bravery and a penchant for giving "fuck you"s to the Empire.

Often, Psii feels he is floundering to reach some sort of balance with others, and failing spectacularly half the time. He sets very high standards for himself, and beats himself up over things for no very good reason. He wonders why anyone would like him, when in fact he's clever, skilled, helpful, and a loyal friend. He's much more well-adjusted than before, thanks to traveling with Signless and friends, but his experiences in slavery still haunt him. Back then, he suppressed emotional intimacy with most people. Showing weakness to anyone but a moirail (and maybe a matesprit) invited violence. Fear dictated many of his actions, though he tried not to show it. Even now, he finds it nearly impossible to cry, because he never feels safe. Riddled with anxieties though he may be, he will not lose his shit in a tight spot. Panicking gets one killed on Alternia. Sentimentality is rare from him, though he can't begrudge others the luxury; the poor schlubs are going to die sooner than later.

Psii has accepted that the universe demands terrible fates. Some things must happen, and his visions are never wrong. His vigilance regarding doom and destruction paints him as gloomy, and he teeters towards pessimism. However, when a bleak outcome is unavoidable, he can't afford to just lie down and give up, at least not for long. His deeply-ingrained duality tells him that ends are also beginnings. He is willing to accept a fate, then use what small advantages he has to work within it, even subvert it: allowing for things to happen, setting up outcomes, preventing (or inviting) calamity. He doesn't always know the long-term cost of his actions, only what must be done. Unfortunately, Doom is an aspect of fate and judgment, and inheriting it comes with a hefty price:

All Captor incarnations have a penchant for self-sacrifice, giving their lives to save others, including even a bunch of assholes. The Ψiioniic would ultimately end up dying in slavery as the Helmsman, piloting Her Imperious Condescension's spaceship at ridiculous speeds to the last, trying to follow commands and reach their home planet before all their kind was wiped out. The exertion likely would have killed him, if the apocalyptic Vast Glub didn't get to him first. Psii has been told since he was young that his life means little. In a way, he still believes that, enough to unhesitatingly sacrifice himself to possibly save his friends or his entire race. There may come a time when he'll be the only one able do something in certain situations—ones which he will quickly yet carefully analyze, before summarily blowing his brains out.

Setting

Psii will not be disturbed by violence as much as being enslaved again. He will attempt rebellion, but not at the cost of his allies' safety. His efforts are likely to be subversive rather than head-on, like hacking and trading information, especially since outright leveling the Capitol with his psionic powers will not be made possible (right?). He is also very likely to check every room he sleeps in for electronic bugs. I am open to plotting how he might find nothing/something/get arrested.

Abilities

Score: 10. Psii doesn't look like much, a scarred reedy nerd with wiry muscles more from labor and traveling than actual fighting. But as an Alternian, he's used to the idea of violence. Stylists might play up a hardened ex-slave or ex-criminal angle upon seeing his whip scars. He's used to surviving with little to nothing. He's killed out of desperation and/or self defense as a slave, and could be pushed to do so again. All this might put him at an 8, but his genius intellect and creativity with makeshift weapons/tools would bump him up higher. He has been responsible for the digital security of Signless's movement, and he is obnoxiously good at coding. Currently he is hiding his hacking skills from the Capitol, to be used against them later. For entertainment, he's got snark, and it's always interesting to see what terrible things will come out of his mouth on any given day. Conversely, he's the popular media depiction of bipolar, oscillating from abrasive to reticent at the drop of a hat. He only gets along with people if he wants to, but cantankerousness makes for great reality TV?

  • Nightvision; trolls are nocturnal.
  • Durability; trolls can be thrown, stabbed, lose a lot of blood, and still be in fighting condition. Psii is at the weaker end of the troll adult scale. He can get himself out of a scrap with a shiv and some untrained dirty streetfighting, but he is mostly a glass cannon. Melee is not his best strength, and if he can be surprised and knocked out, Alternia's most powerful psionic mage can be defeated.
  • Master programmer and hacker.
  • Unequaled telekinetic ability among trolls, able to hurl a spaceship across thousands of light years in a matter of hours, though this not without extreme duress. He also has optic blasts that can incinerate stuff.
  • Visions that prophesy bleak outcomes. They are usually jumbled and incomplete. He hears (whether he likes it or not) the psychic screams of the imminently deceased at all other times. He tries to tune them out, but sometimes the shouting or the headaches are so bad he can barely hear himself think. He is susceptible to psychic mind control about half the time. (So as not to mess with Death Roll mechanics, he will only have premonitions a few days to a week ahead of time.) Please see permissions post for predicting future deaths.
  • Electronic interference (accidental).
  • Expert in Apiculture Networks run by Alternian bees. Able to make them sleep with a psychic snap of his fingers. Understands beenary code of said bees.
  • Harvests mind honey from their hives. Mind honey can give a mentally challenged individual a temporary boost, but has extremely adverse effects when consumed by genius psychics like Sollux or Psii.
